MLB is all the rage these days. For what? Because the new rules that have been introduced are still causing a reaction in major league baseball.
We first talk about the dial of the launchers. Many don’t like it, but others are able to turn it to their advantage.
Of the lot? You guessed it: Max Scherzer.
The Mets pitcher waited for the batter to use his only downtime to immediately pitch as soon as he received the OK from the umpire.
As you can see, the batter called a timeout in an attempt to outsmart Scherzer, but Scherzer braced himself accordingly. And since the batter had to be in the box at eight seconds…
Recall that Scherzer said he likes the dial because batters are only allowed one time out per appearance at bat. The best always find ways to get by.
But it’s not just the dial that gets people talking: there’s also the special defense.
Now all four infielders need to have their feet in the sand and two guys need to be on each side of second base.
But nothing was said about the acrobats.
So the Red Sox used logic to move the unrestricted left fielder between first and second base. Joey Gallo, a southpaw, was trapped.
I like to see the Sox do that because I think it’s ridiculous to restrict access to the field to certain guys. Left-handed hitters just need to get better.
So I love what Scherzer and the Sox did. Hats off, really, to those who know how to use the rules to their advantage while remaining within the law.
