Marlins: Less playing time at third base for Charles Leblanc?

With training camp just weeks away, new Miami Marlins manager Skip Schumaker has hinted that veteran Jean Segura will be the most used player to play at third base in 2023.

At least, to start the season.

If we rely on this plan, the Lavallois Charles Leblanc could get less playing time on a regular basis with the Florida team.

However, Leblanc’s versatility could allow him to muddy the waters, since Charles can not only play third base, but also first base, second base, shortstop and even left field.

In career, Segura is not known to be the most skilled defensively. He certainly doesn’t have the strongest arm. He only played 24 games at third base and had a .964 defensive percentage.

It will therefore be up to Charles to make his manager lie by offering precise relays towards the first base or to perform well when he is called upon to play in other positions, mainly in training camp.

With injuries, rest days and the vagaries of a long 162-game marathon, the Quebecer will have his chances of evolving, even if he could lose some playing time if Segura is successful.

One thing is certain, the Marlins are in a tough division and manager Schumaker will want to put the best players on the field to win games.
