Marcus Stroman says Cubs don’t want to talk to him about contract extension

During the season, we learned that during the winter, the Cubs and Marcus Stroman had talked about contract extensions.

Recall that Stroman has another year of contract in 2024, but he also has an exit option. And the way he plays, he has the big end of the stick.

If the player gets out of his contract, his #1 goal is to stay in Chicago. The Cubs player is really happy in town and he wants to stay there as long as possible.

He feels the club is going in the right direction.

That said, you and I know that the Cubs are not a power. And with his exit option, he becomes, in a way, a rental player.

The Cubs have therefore not decided what was going to happen to him.

If I was the Cubs, I wouldn’t trade him. After all, the club is turning the corner and before long it will take some good pitchers in town.

Unless the club receives an irresistible offer, I would keep him.

Another option justifying a transaction? If the player asks for too much money, as has already been the case in the past with the Blue Jays, for example. And since the Cubs are sometimes cheap…

That said, relying on the words of the principal concerned, we realize that the organization cannot necessarily know if he is asking too much or not since there are no negotiations.

On Twitter, the pitcher claimed that he and his agent had often tried to talk about the contract, but that at this time, the Cubs do not want to explore the subject.

The player is therefore eager to see (and he wants to stay), but clearly, it could end badly if he ever had to leave when he wanted to stay.
