It's done.
The Arizona Diamondbacks just signed Lourdes Gurriel Jr., according to numerous reporters who cover baseball.
According to Jeff Passan, Gurriel Jr. is back with his 2023 team on a three-year, $42 million contract.
The player has an exit option after the second year and the club has an option to potentially bring him back for a fourth season.
Remember that he and Gabriel Moreno spent 2023 in Arizona after the transaction that brought Daulton Varsho to Toronto.
Moreno is young and is obviously here to stay… and so is Gurriel Jr., obviously. Meanwhile, in Toronto, the club is still looking for help offensively.
But the Blue Jays did not, according to the GM, lose the transaction – ah and let it happen.
Gurriel Jr. hit .261 in 2023. He maintained an OPS+ of 108, hit 24 bombs and drove in 82 runs for the DBacks.
Details to come…
