Kevin Kiermaier signs with the Blue Jays

Outfielder Kevin Kiermaier has chosen his next destination: Toronto, which finally makes its first free agent signing of the winter.

The center fielder signed, according to Shi Davidi, with the Blue Jays. He therefore remains in the East of the American for the next stage of his career.

We know that Kiermaier is a left-handed hitter and that the Jays are looking for one. We also know that he is a good center fielder, which is needed after the departures of Raimel Tapia, Bradley Zimmer and Jackie Bradley Jr.

But his stick has never been extraordinary. It enters into the “run prevention” that the club is looking for, which is to prevent the opposing club from scoring.

Kiermaier will be able to continue to live in Tampa in the winter since Dunedin is next door. This is one of the reasons why he preferred the Jays to the Dodgers, the finalists in the file.

It will be remembered that the Blue Jays had a run-in with him when he stole a card from Alejandro Kirk with the Jays’ pitching tendencies. Will they make peace?

Kiermaier is a good locker room guy. It will bring a lot of leadership to training.

Let’s just hope he won’t be the club’s starting center fielder. After all, offensively, he’s not exactly Teoscar Hernandez.

If he is, it will no doubt make George Springer a more consistent right fielder, which could help him stay healthy.

It still lacks punch on the attack, that said.
