In 2023, the Toronto Blue Jays have decided to emphasize defense and the small details. It was to the detriment of the attack, but hey.
The club was the best defensively in the American, which is excellent. This was thanks to five guys who were nominated for a Gold Glove.
Of the five, two are still there (Alejandro Kirk and Jose Berrios, who is a pitcher) and three (Whit Merrifield, Matt Chapman and Kevin Kiermaier) are free as air.
Everything will have to start again for the Blue Jays. It’s possible that some guys will come back, but they’re spoiled for choice right now.
Chapman was expected to win one, but doubts remained about Kiermaier. For what? Due to his state of health.
He finally kept fit after hip surgery and has been sublime this season. That’s why the 2023 Gold Glove is special to him.
And he decided to spoil himself.
As he shared on social media, Kiermaier, Chapman and their wives celebrated both guys winning the Golden Glove at UFC 295, which took place last night in New York.
You have to understand that last August, the two guys said to each other that if they each won a Golden Glove, they were going to celebrate that way.
The two free agents should celebrate their great season with a multi-year contract. This is what they deserve, deep down.
Chapman could, despite his lousy offensive season, sign a nine-figure contract.
Kiermaier won’t have the same luxury, but he exceeded the expectations placed on him and I see him getting a two-year contract.
