Jung-Hoo Lee: six years and $113 million in San Francisco

For a long time, the San Francisco Giants have been looking for a star who will agree to play for them. They also need a face of the franchise.

Jung-Hoo Lee is a star and even though he's not a “face of a franchise” per se, he's still a player who agreed to take their money.

According to what is circulating, the center fielder has agreed to a six-year contract worth a total of $113 million. So that’s a little less than $19 million per campaign.

An exit option is provided in his contract after the sixth year of the contract, which will likely be official after his physical tests.

The Japanese, who has been playing in Korea since 2017, was in the sights of the Giants and the Yankees, mainly. But since the Yankees got Juan Soto, Trent Grisham and Alex Verdugo…

In other words, seeing it in SF is not surprising.

He is an excellent center fielder who is disciplined at the plate. His career average of .340 shows that he is a contact hitter.

He could well become the leadoff hitter Bob Melvin needs in his lineup. He has the profile of a leadoff guy.

One wonders what this means for Cody Bellinger. The Giants no longer need a center fielder every time… but if Bellinger wants to play in San Francisco, the club needs to listen.

Being the Giants, I would look to Matt Chapman…and more importantly, pitchers. Yoshinobu Yamamoto is still available, as far as we know…

  • What's going on with Wander Franco? We don't really know if he will be able to play in 2024. Don't hold your breath, in my opinion.
  • Yoshinobu Yamamoto: The Blue Jays are here.
  • Shota Imanaga to the Cubs?
  • Ken Griffey Jr. will earn more in 2024 than Shohei Ohtani.
