Josh Donaldson and Aaron Boone had a big chat about the veteran’s playing time

Josh Donaldson is not having a great 2023 season. This is consistent with his 2022 season, which has not been glorious either.

In fact, since he is a member of the New York Yankees, he is no longer the player he once was during his good years in Toronto or Atlanta, in particular.

Recently, the player came back from the injured list… but it’s not going well at all. He can’t be effective at bat.

He’s not the only one as the club aren’t going anywhere without their captain on the pitch, but hey.

All that to say that this afternoon, Aaron Boone was supposed to talk to the media, but he showed up at the podium 30 minutes late. Josh Donaldson was spotted…but said he couldn’t talk.

At some point, I really thought the player was released, or the Yankees chose to pay him to come home. The scenario lent itself to it and the theory circulated.

But ultimately, no.

The discussion was long and intense, but obviously, it is good for everyone. Publicly, Aaron Boone said they were on the same page.

After a few games as a backup, Donaldson was promised big playing time at third base.

He will have every chance to get up.

Even if he wasn’t the starter today, the Yankees have no choice but to give him playing time. After all, there are so many injured and unproductive players in the lineup…

But again, a veteran gets a chance he doesn’t deserve in the Bronx. It is not his division opponents who will complain about it.

  • The Raptors prospect is adjusting to his new city.
  • Another callback to Baltimore.
