Last night, my colleague Félix Forget wrote a paper on the market for first basemen in the MLB. There are several famous guys.
Of the lot, there is Jose Abreu. I don’t believe in his return to Chicago, but despite his lack of power last year, the White Sox player is still capable of hitting well.
And inevitably, teams will be interested in his case.
According to reports, the Boston Red Sox would be interested in signing the first baseman, but mainly as a hitter of choice.
This would ensure that the club would have enormous depth at first base. With Triston Casas, Bobby Dalbec and Eric Hosmer, the Sox are already overflowing with first basemen.
Is the club better to hire a DH who is at the base and not a first base player to fill in the gaps?
After all, with Hosmer on minimum wage, I don’t see them releasing the veteran.
If the club doesn’t bring back JD Martinez as their hitter of choice, the club will have to add a good hitter though and if Abreu wants to play in Boston, the bet would be worth it.
