For the very first game of the playoffs, the Tampa Bay Rays received a visit from the Texas Rangers.
The visiting club had Jordan Montgomery on the mound and he started his game well. He limited his number of shots and he managed to limit the guys on the trails – mainly thanks to his dedication.
But unfortunately, Tyler Glasnow couldn’t say the same.
The problem for the Rays pitcher was that even though he was in good shape, his defense was not. The Rays made three errors in three innings, which is not the house’s habit.
This opened the door for Rangers.
The latter were the first to score in the second inning via Josh Jung, the young third baseman of the team.
The Rays game wasn’t as distracting as the empty benches in the Trop, but oh well.
In the fifth inning, the Rangers loaded the bases and a nasty throw from Tyler Glasnow allowed Corey Seager to cross home plate. 2-0.
He subsequently limited the damage.
But guess what? Even after Glasnow left, the Rays continued to make mistakes. Jose Siri misplayed a ball and threw it poorly, allowing the Rangers to score twice.
Meanwhile, Jordan Montgomery continued to dominate. The pitcher made sure to keep the relief as far away from the game as possible by being really good.
His seven scoreless innings are notable.
The Rangers’ replacement held on (yes, yes) and the Rangers therefore won the first match 4-0.
The Rays now face elimination.
