During the offseason, the Padres continued to spend. The Dodgers, them, rather took it take it easy at the signature level.
The goal? Probably to prepare for the arrival of Shohei Ohtani. Because even though San Diego will be in the derby, LA is favored right now.
Brief. All that to say that the Padres arrived this season thinking they had a chance to take the measure of the Dodgers.
Result? The last 11 regular season series have been lost by SD between the two teams.
Five of the six games between the two teams this season have nonetheless been won by the Dodgers, who are seven games ahead of San Diego in the division as of Monday morning.
It makes the difference, but that’s not all. After all, besides games against the Dodgers, San Diego is having a hard time.
So even though San Diego beat LA in the playoffs in 2022 and the club improved by putting money on the table, the Dodgers have the upper hand right now. Shohei Ohtani takes notes.
But before Sunday’s game, Joe Musgrove said the Padres shouldn’t have an inferiority complex against big brothers Los Angeles.
As a group, the guys are tired of hearing about it because when it matters most (in the playoffs), it’s the Padres who come out on top.
It’s not false.
The big rivalry between the two clubs, which is growing in MLB, is good for baseball. After all, it’s the talk of the West.
And that, the commissioner must like that.
