Things had just started to go well for the Yankees. We weren’t talking about making the playoffs, but the club was winning. The young people were riding well.
Again this afternoon, even though the Brewers prevented the Yankees from hitting a hit or scoring in more than 10 innings, the Bombers found a way to win.
But a big cloud covers the Bronx sky: Jasson Dominguez.
At the start of the day, the Yankees announced that the young man had a sore elbow. We didn’t really know more.
But now manager Aaron Boone announced bad news: the Martian has a torn elbow. And often, such a tear means a Tommy John is coming.
Hope, who has been doing well since his recall, should go under the knife shortly.
If all goes well, it could strike in six months. But that obviously doesn’t mean that everything will go well in his rehabilitation process, as we know.
But even at that, he might not pitch in six months – like Bryce Harper.
And if he needs days as a DH, that doesn’t mean he’ll get them in New York since Giancarlo Stanton is the hitter of choice. Aaron Judge needs days like this too.
I see the Bombers taking a conservative approach to hope. But in any case, it remains very, very bad news.
- Clayton Kershaw: his next departure is postponed.
- Jay Jackson will go to AAA.
- The Braves are in the playoffs.
