I don’t think I need to remind you of the importance that Jacques Doucet had for baseball fans in Quebec. The voice of the Expos has always been associated with the Expos and baseball in French.
Recently, he also described his very last career game.
Obviously, in Quebec, it is recognized. In Canada? So is he, who is now a member of the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame.
But globally? It is not yet recognized at its fair value.
That could change in the coming months since Mr. Doucet is nominated to win the Ford C. Frick award, which aims to recognize the impact of a descriptor in baseball. And clearly, in Quebec, it had a massive impact.
This would allow him to be recognized in Cooperstown and, without being officially a member of the Hall, to have his plaque there displayed in the Hall of Fame.
Jacques Doucet francized baseball and he was the one everyone listened to in the summer, on the radio, every day the Expos played.
Hopefully next December we have some good news to report. It’s time to do it.
