It’s now too late for the Cardinals

The St. Louis Cardinals lost their fifth straight game yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) to the San Francisco Giants, giving them last place in the National League Central Division, eight and a half games behind the Pittsburgh Pirates, who barely play for .500.

The 8-5 loss virtually put an end to the Missouri team’s hopes of participating in the fall dance, as evidenced by their atrocious record of 27 wins against 42 losses.

And manager Oliver Marmol smells like hot soup. After the defeat of his people, the skipper went there from a rather particular press point where one could feel his impotence and his frustration.

It is unfortunately too late for the Cards, who should have fired Marmol a month ago, when the bad start to the season was still recoverable.

This forfeiture of the Cardinals was certainly not what third baseman Nolan Arenado saw in his soup (we stay in theme) when he decided not to exercise his exit option on his contract during the offseason.

Rather, he believed his team could achieve great things. Whoops…

The staff of the Cards must now take the ball on the leap and go with a turn like the one the New York Yankees made in 2016. No need to turn everything upside down.

It remains to be seen who can be monetized in order to make this team a team that aspires to great honors. The names of Jordan Montgomery, Paul Goldschmidt and Tyler O’Neil will surely surface.
