It’s official: the New York Mets, like the San Francisco Giants, have indeed escaped Carlos Correa. The latter is a member of the Twins.
It was presented this morning… in its new colors. I mean in his new colors because he signed two contracts since his last game with the Twins, who have a new uniform.
The Mets aren’t taking it well. In the locker room, it is said that “everyone is disappointed” to have escaped a guy like him when he was so close to formalizing his contract.
Remember that Steve Cohen said that ” it took him Correa“, but he didn’t do the necessary to keep him once he was under contract.
We all know it won’t be long before Steve Cohen starts spending again, but I think the Mets owner took the wrong risk. He bet too much before the physical tests and he was too conservative afterwards.
The Twins, they have put a lot of money on the next few years, those where the doctors are not afraid to see the ankle of the main interested party let go. The Mets responded with a 13-word statement. At least, in English, there are 13 words.
We have not been able to find common ground. We wish good luck to Carlos.
It’s brief and clear, we feel that it was done “in principle” more than anything else.
But the fact remains that while people in San Francisco and New York are disappointed to see him play elsewhere, people in Minnesota may wonder what all this means.
Did he really want to be in Minnesota?
After all, it’s a little too easy to say “God put him in the right place” and he still owed some explanation. And this, even if all the members of the Twins are happy to see him again.
Basically what he explained was that the Giants, Mets and Twins were all some of the places Correa really wanted to sign. That’s why he says he’s really happy to be back with the Twins.
It’s a bit easy, but at the same time, how to justify everything that happened? The principal concerned knows that it is crazy and he wanted to thank his agent, Scott Boras, for everything he has done.
All he can do is say that his heart is in Minnesota, that he’s happy to know his son will grow up there and that his teammates are happy to see him again.
But in April, the boots will have to follow the chops. He will also have to show all the doctors that he is capable of staying healthy, as he has done (in his ankle) since 2014.
$865 million later, he can now focus on baseball.
And while the Mets mourn Correa’s departure, the Twins managed to get their hands on “the product” of their choice. They know the price to pay to bring me back, as the shortstop said a few months ago…
