As you probably know, the San Francisco Giants fired their manager Gabe Kapler at the end of the season.
The Giants therefore find themselves with the Mets, the Angels and the Guardians among the teams looking for a manager for 2024.
Who will be appointed to San Francisco? We don’t know yet. What we know is that internally, there are candidates who have a chance.
Kai Correa, who finished the season as interim manager, was notably interviewed for the full-time position. He is currently the bench coach of his team.
But he’s not the only man for the job – and the word man certainly doesn’t have its place.
For what? Because the Giants interviewed Alyssa Nakken to give her a chance for the position of club manager, according to The Athletic.
Everything suggests that this is the first time in history that a woman has been granted an interview for a manager position.
Nakken already works for the Giants, having been on the coaching staff for a few seasons. Correa, Mark Hallberg (third base coach) and Nakken are in the running.
She works in particular with the outfielders, but she can do several things. She has already been on the field after a coach was kicked out, in 2022.
It’s good to see that women have more and more place in baseball. Kim Ng has been the GM of the Miami Marlins for several years.
