Last year, the Yankees did not have a great season. There is only one pitcher who really has nothing to be ashamed of: Gerrit Cole. He pitched all season and won the Cy Young.
Aaron Judge (who did well when he was healthy) and he will have to find solutions to try to win in 2024. Because, unsurprisingly, that's Cole's goal.
And let's say that pitcher #45 has his own idea on the subject.
In the eyes of the starter, the club gets injured too often. He would like to see his teammates find a way to stay healthy.
Obviously, this is much easier said than done. We also understand that there are injuries for which it is impossible to protect yourself. Aaron Judge is a good example, indeed. #Toe
But he thinks 38 guys who spent time on the injured list is too many.
There were injuries that were out of the ordinary.
–Gerrit Cole
Is the problem in the way guys prepare? By the instructions of the organization's specialists? Hard to say.
But in any case, if there's one who can talk, it's Cole.
For what? Because those who have already gone to see his profile on Baseball Reference (or those who have followed him forever) know that he is not a subscriber to the injured list.
Since 2017, the pitcher has made at least 30 starts in each of his seasons. The only exception? 12 starts in 2020… a 60-game season.
If Cole finds the solution for his teammates, I imagine Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton could call him. After all, the Canadian asks himself the same questions…
And if he really finds the solution (or his club does, at least), the chances of the Yankees winning will increase considerably.
