Gerrit Cole does not think about the exit clause included in his contract

We are still far from the end of the 2024 campaign, but in a business like that of MLB, organizations need to plan ahead. And the players too.

This is the case, among others, of the New York Yankees and Gerrit Cole. When the pact was signed between the two parties in 2019, an exit clause was added to the $324 million contract, a clause that can be used at the end of the 2024 season.

However, the main interested party wants to stay in the Bronx Bombers pajamas for a long time. Asked about it, Cole said he wasn’t thinking about it, after cracking a surprised smile.

It’s not something that crossed my mind. It will be more of a mutual agreement if I walk out of my contract.

Barring an epic drop in performance from the right-hander, the Yankees won’t be interested in getting rid of their ace pitcher. We can therefore assume that Cole will be in the New York uniform for a long time.

In the meantime, his focus will be on winning a first championship since 2009 for New York.

It will probably depend on what my family wants to do and where we are at that time. But we still have a lot of work to do here.

Indeed, there is still a lot of work to do in the Bronx. But to see the intensity of the Gunner in the last playoffs, we can be sure that he will be focused on the ultimate goal, and this, throughout the next two campaigns.
