Ever since Gary Sanchez was acquired from the San Diego Padres, he’s been playing every day. The club decided to place their trust in him because he desperately needed the receiver position.
And right now, he’s looking good — at bat, at least.
Used every day by his new training, the Dominican seems to be like a fish in water with his new teammates.
He has therefore, in the short term, regained his superb offensively speaking. Last night, in a 10-3 win over Seattle, he hit his fourth homer in nine games at California.
He also drove in three runs.
His .310 average, 1.168 OPS, 0.4 WAR, nine hits and nine RBIs in as many games is good news for the Padres, who took a chance.
I don’t know how long it’s going to last, but if he hits like that, he’s going to buy himself MLB time. And this, whether as a DH or as a receiver.
So much the better for the one who started the season at home and who went through the AAA (Giants and Mets) before having his chance in New York and being cut.
