Gary Sanchez could end up with the Angels

As recently as Tuesday, we learned that Gary Sanchez had been released by the San Francisco Giants.

The minor league contract he signed with the California outfit during the offseason included a clause that allowed him to opt out and become a free agent if they didn’t add him to the 40-man roster by the end of the season. May 1, and that’s exactly what he did.

So far, nothing surprising.

But it sure looks like Sanchez might get ANOTHER chance. It’s that the Los Angeles Angels have lost the services of young receiver Logan O’Hoppe for a period of four to six months due to a shoulder injury and therefore need to add depth to position number two.

Additionally, Angels manager Phil Nevin and batting coach Marcus Thames already know Sanchez, having worked with him during their time with the New York Yankees. It might make things easier.

However, you have to be desperate to give a chance to a receiver who has big defensive deficiencies and who still hasn’t played a game in MLB this season. It’s also not like Sanchez can bring any offense, having maintained a batting average below .200 the last three seasons.

The Angels will always continue to surprise us…
