Francisco Lindor wants to see Buck Showalter in New York in 2024

With expectations sky high, the New York Mets’ 2023 season ultimately turned out to be a disaster.

And at this kind of moment, a change of manager is often considered. However, for Francisco Lindor, the idea that the Mets could change skipper after the season isn’t even worth putting on the table.

It should be remembered that the Queens representatives now have a new president of baseball operations, David Stearns, and that sometimes this type of nonination precedes a personnel movement at the manager level.

However, the Mets shortstop has a hard time believing the new manager will fire Buck Showalter, for whom Lindor has developed a high level of respect over the past two seasons.

I don’t think that’s how Stearns handles things. From what I know, he’s a very intelligent guy, he’s a guy who interacts with players and a guy who doesn’t make emotional decisions. He makes very informed decisions, just like Steve Cohen.

Speaking of decisions, Stearns is expected to keep Billy Eppler as general manager after this campaign, but Showalter’s situation would appear more precarious.

Let’s not forget that Craig Counsell, who managed the Milwaukee Brewers during Stearns’ tenure as team chief, will be out of a job at the end of the season if he doesn’t sign a new pact.

However, Lindor persisted and signed. According to him, the Mets already have what they need in their hands.

Buck holds everyone accountable, he’s a great leader, he’s exceptional at calming down the clubhouse, which can be difficult at times in New York, and he cares about the players. He listens, he collects information. There are a lot of things I like about him. He’s an incredible manager.

Despite Lindor’s wishes, nothing confirms that Showalter will want to be back in order to begin a reconstruction, despite the fact that there is one year remaining on the 67-year-old’s contract.
