Fernando Tatis Jr. will play in the Dominican Republic this winter

The San Diego Padres and Fernando Tatis Jr. saw their season end abruptly, well before what was expected at the start of the campaign.

However, for the latter, the leave will be short.

Indeed, the Padres star will play at least 20 games with the Estrellas Orientales during the 2023-2024 season of the Dominican Republic Baseball League (LIDOM), according to what his father, who is also the manager of the team, moved forward.

We received permission from the San Diego Padres for my son to play 20 games.

We still don’t know if Junior will play as an outfielder, as a shortstop or as a hitter, but one thing is certain, he will join some well-known names that the general manager of the Dominican team managed to put under contract, such as Miguel Sano and Yasiel Puig.

Garcia also confirmed that there has been contact with pitcher Johnny Cueto of the Miami Marlins, but as of yet, there is nothing confirmed about his participation this winter.

Tatis Jr. last saw Dominican League action during the 2020–21 winter season, as his team reached the semifinals in which he hit for a .318 batting average in addition to adding a home run, a triple, four doubles and six RBIs in six games.

The outfielder was sidelined for the 2022 MLB season and missed the first part of this campaign due to a combination of injuries and a suspension for testing positive for a banned substance, limiting him to 141 games this year.
