Long before his suspension for the use of doping products, Fernando Tatis Jr. left no one indifferent. So imagine now.
And this polarization is not about to fade. In last night’s (Tuesday) game against the Chicago Cubs, the San Diego Padres right fielder had his name chanted by Bears fans gathered at Wrigley Field. And when I say “outraged” it’s in the phrase “he’s on steroids”.
His reaction? Instead of making gestures of frustration or simply ignoring them, he entertained the fans by dancing to the rhythm of the hubbub.
If some believe that this gesture has no place and that Tatis Jr. should focus on his at-bats, I completely disagree.
The Dominican knows that he will have to face this kind of reception throughout the present campaign. The season will be long and frustration could set in. So, is it better for him to face off with the fans or have fun with them?
Tatis Jr. has already paid his dues for the mistakes he has made and it’s not a few small ballet steps that will get him out of his match, even if so far he’s been showing a .182 batting average in 22 at-bats and only produced a small run on his only long pitch in 2023.
