Mistakes, everyone makes them. Fortunately, in most cases, we can laugh about it.
And this is the case with the trophies that the winners of 2022 received yesterday. Unfortunately, the Cy Young trophies presented to pitchers Justin Verlander and Sandy Alcantara contained several glaring errors.
These were labeled “Most Valuable Pitcher” instead of Valuable. The awards also appeared to be a reproduction of the inaugural plaque, as both had the wrong name (Don Newcombe) and the wrong year (1956).

As for them, the American League and National Most Valuable Player trophies that Aaron Judge and Paul Goldschmidt won at the same gala on Saturday were spotless. You can’t go wrong down the line.
We bet that the MLB will take a much closer look at the plaques of the recipients next year, and that unless there are exceptional circumstances, no error will be found there…
