It’s official: there will be no agreement tonight.
Results? Because the collective agreement will not be signed tonight, Rob Manfred has canceled another week. The opening date is now April 14 – and Jackie Robinson Day is the following day.
Rob Manfred announced that despite “good faith negotiations,” MLB and the union failed to reach an agreement.
Here is the Commissioner’s statement on this.
What that tells me is that the players really didn’t want to accept the international draft. That’s where it got stuck.
This is the issue that undoubtedly derailed the rest since, at the monetary level, it was not the end of the world.
MLB had several options on the table, including the status quo at the international draft level and in relation to the qualifying offer, but it was obviously refused.
