The Pirates have had a tough time in the last few weeks (especially since that fateful series against the Rays…). But, despite this, the Pirates are still close to the playoffs.
Tops of their 30 victories since the beginning of the season, the Pirates aim for the first position in their division, thus wanted to dethrone the Cards of Saint-Louis, who finished first in the division last year.
And it’s a good time to rack up the wins, especially considering the Pirates are currently facing the Cards. The Pirates are on a four-game winning streak, including the last two against the Cards: 7-5 on Friday (after leading from behind 1-5) and 4-3 on Saturday. The Pirates and the Cards clashed at 11 a.m. this Sunday.
Since 1999, the Cardinals have finished ahead of the Pirates in every season. But, a sign that times are changing, the Cards are dead last in the division and the Pirates are second, only 0.5 games behind the first position held by the Milwaukee Brewers.
Everything is still possible, the Cards could overtake the Pirates. But, it’s good to see the Pirates manage to hold their own in this division. With that, I’m going back to watch today’s game, hoping to see the Pirates win.
