Even though Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez were teammates and the faces of baseball in the early 2000s, the fact remains that it hasn’t always been mad love between the two. They were good friends at first, but a rivalry developed between the two and it degenerated a bit.
However, in recent years, we feel that the two retirees are trying to bury the hatchet. We’ve seen them together a few times, and while they’re not necessarily great friends, they’re able to talk to each other and live together in the public sphere.
A few weeks ago, we also learned that Jeter and Rodriguez were going to share the screen on FOX Sports. He will begin his new duties in the summer and will be seen on FOX Sports for MLB highlights.
But clearly, the fact that the two former members of the Yankees share the screen on a regular basis is a bet that is not necessarily without risk. Both are professional, of course, but the fact remains that the chemistry must operate on the screen.
That said, we learn that FOX Sports did their homework before offering the job to Jeter. In fact, Rodriguez was consulted to find out what he thought about it.
And in the end, he gave his approval, so Jeter got the job.
The two former players will also share the screen with David Ortiz and with Kevin Burkhardt, while the quartet will take care of the pre-match show.
I don’t know if that’s the intended formula, but it oddly reminds me of the concept of Inside The NBA (TNT), which relies on a host in Ernie Johnson and three former NBA players in Shaquille O’Neal, Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith.
I can’t wait to see what the show will look like, but I can’t wait to see how the two men will live together on screen. I tend to believe that they are professional enough for everything to go well, but we will have the answer during the summer.
