If the arrival of Shohei Ohtani with the Dodgers pleases the fans of this team, the situation is very different a few kilometers further.
I vividly remember the feeling Pirates fans had when Andrew McCutchen left Pittsburgh, and I can imagine Angels fans experiencing something similar.
But let's forget about the fans for a moment, and remember that Mike Trout is alone with the Angels right now. In 2019, Trout signed a 12-year contract, worth $426 million.
Four years later, he's still in Los Angeles, and the Angels don't seem ready to trade him at all.
The Angels' last appearance in the Series dates back to 2014. Since then, nothing. Even with Ohtani in the lineup, the playoffs remained out of reach. Hopes for a better future therefore rested on the shoulders of Shohei Ohtani's return to the Angels, which did not happen.
Is this the beginning of the end for Trout with the Angels? If he ever wants to be able to win a World Series before the end of his career (he's 32), he'll have to request a trade in the next few years.
Will he do it?
