David Wells believes Rob Manfred hates baseball

Obviously, David Wells has had the gift of making people talk about him for several weeks. After attacking the current generation of baseball players earlier this month, he now has his sights set on none other than MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred.

Indeed, the 60-year-old said he thinks the commissioner hates baseball because he keeps changing the rules for the worse.

Still in the category of attacks, he even attacked officials. The players, the managers, the referees, but damn, who will be his next target for his poisonous attacks? The mascots, the beer sellers? It is to be hoped that it is not the partisans, because there are quite a few who Wells has not spoken against!

Something to say

The last time the sixty-year-old threw a ball in the Majors dates back to 2007. He was then 44 years old, all the same. Since then, like many retirees, he was far from the limelight, probably leading a quiet life.

However, more or less two weeks ago, as reported by this same blog, Wells vented his anger on the younger generation of athletes in his sport, during a media scrum. According to him, today’s players are too soft and too pampered.

The comments undeniably sparked a reaction and people who cover baseball want to interview him more than ever, because he doesn’t hold his tongue in his pocket. He certainly did not disappoint once again, attacking the most powerful person in baseball.

Saying he is against changes to the rule book is one thing. To say that according to him, the recent changes made distort the sport is another. On the other hand, quoting that according to him, Rob Manfred hates baseball in connection with all this goes a step further.

I hope he has loyal friends, because he’s not good at making allies. But that’s not all. No no.

Asked which rule he would have liked to see changed from his days as a player, the man who played for nine teams during his illustrious career mentioned that he was dissatisfied with the work of the referees. The self-proclaimed old-school guy said the umpires’ strike zone was far too small when he was on the mound.

Without wanting to put words in Wells’ mouth, it’s a safe bet that the latter would be delighted if, one day, the rule book was changed and robot referees came into existence! It would be interesting to ask him what he thinks of Manfred’s work…
