Of all the big names in the range market, Dansby Swanson was the last one still available. The shortstop player was in the sights of several teams, and clearly, there was no lack of interest in his services.
However, now Swanson has made his decision: he will wear the Chicago Cubs uniform in 2023.
The terms of the deal are not yet known, but one thing is clear: Swanson’s next team will be the Cubs.
Since last offseason, the Cubs have wanted to try to revive themselves and attract talent to the free agent market. Last winter it was Marcus Stroman who came to town, and this year Swanson joins Jameson Taillon as the club’s big signings.
There’s still work to be done to be a competitive team, but let’s give the Cubs credit: they’re not afraid to spend to get back to winning ways.
