Craig Counsell not closing the door on the Mets

We still don’t know if current Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell will be at the helm of the Wisconsin team for the next campaign or if he will be free as of next week.

Counsell’s father, John, was a longtime Brewers employee, and the two still live with family in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin. Additionally, the Brewers have made no secret that they want him back for several more seasons.

However, if the second avenue is taken, the New York Mets are the first team that comes to mind.

And the representatives of the Big Apple are also in Counsell’s head, since according to what we hear, the latter would be happy to take up the challenge in New York if he and the Mets prove to be compatible.

At least that’s according to two sources familiar with the situation, who said Monday that Counsell would take a job with the Mets, which would allow him to reunite with his former boss at the Brewers, the new president of operations baseball, David Stearns.

Geography would therefore not be a factor in the next job of the skippereven though New York is quite far from its base in Wisconsin.

We will therefore know more after the expiration of Counsell’s contract, on October 31. The Mets plan to conduct an extensive search for their next manager and won’t just focus on Counsell.

The file could therefore be spread over several weeks.

Remember that manager stories are all the talk these days. The Giants are close to hiring Bob Melvin.

  • Anthony Kay with the A’s.
  • Why is Nathan Eovaldi in Texas and not Boston?
