Corey Kluber signs one-year contract with Red Sox

A few years ago, Corey Kluber was the ultimate starting pitcher. The gunner was dominant as no one on the side of Cleveland and his two conquests of the Cy Young trophy during his prime were well deserved.

However, since his departure from Cleveland, it is less obvious for Kluber. His very brief stint with the Rangers in 2020 was inconclusive (he only pitched one inning before he was injured for the year) and his stints with the Yankees and Rays saw him become a pitcher. depth.

And now, in 2023, Kluber will once again be in the East of the American, but with another team: he has agreed with the Boston Red Sox for the 2023 season.

Note also that the Red Sox have an option to bring Kluber back to town in 2024 if they wish.

Kluber, who will be 37 at the start of the next campaign, will add some depth to the squad rotation. Sox. His best years are behind him, but you can do worse as a fourth or fifth starter.

It doesn’t fully compensate for the loss of Nathan Eovaldi, but it still brings an arm that can throw a lot of innings at an adequate level in the rotation.

Last year, Kluber finished the campaign with a 10-10 record and a 4.34 ERA. He is especially solid in limiting bases on walks, but his shots, which no longer have much speed, mean that he allows a lot of hits.

That said, it’s an interesting bet for the Red Sox, who will try to revive the Klubot at the bottom of their rotation. Can’t wait to see if he can bounce back this year.
