Cody Bellinger is an intriguing case in the freelance market. After all, the outfielder is a good player on paper, but on the field, that version has long since disappeared.
But since he’s young, has suffered injuries in the past, and won an MVP, his market bid is intriguing.
Especially on the terms of a one-year contract only. At a lower price, the risk is slim.
He is a player who could really benefit from a new start to be an excellent center fielder, but also to find his bearings offensively. Of the lot, the Blue Jays would like to sign him.
We know that the Giants are also in the race, but we suspect that several clubs will want to get their hands on his services.
And according to what is circulating at the moment, the Colorado Rockies would be in the lot.
Playing for the Rockies would involve a risk, that of remaining in a tough division where many pitchers evolve.
That being said, playing more often in a batting paradise would obviously be a big draw on the terms of a one-year contract.
It should also be mentioned that Bellinger could benefit from signing for a less good team. Thus, if he was traded at the deadline, he would not be eligible for a qualifying offer next winter.
It is therefore a destination that can have its charm… and the pressure on it would be less – expected, of course.
