Spencer Strider’s phenomenal start to the season impresses many.
Talk to Chipper Jones. The one who was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2018, cannot believe the work that has been done by the starting pitcher of the Braves, during the last month.
Still glowing when looking at Jones’ career summary. Eight All-Star Game appearances, 1995 World Series winner, 1999 National League MVP and two-time Silver Stick winner.
The intractable Spencer Strider
When you look at Spencer Strider’s performance since joining the Braves last year, you have no choice but to be as impressed as Chipper Jones.
Every time he’s on the mound, the Braves are pretty much guaranteed a win. There’s no doubt in my mind that he’s established himself as the rotational ace in Atlanta.
Strider has three pitches in his repertoire: the four-seam fastball, the slippery ball and the shifter, which he uses very little. No need for more shots, when you see the quality of its rapidity and its slipperiness.
His ERA of 1.80 ranks him third among National League pitchers. Buckle up, opposing hitters have only hit .136 against him since the start of the year! He is also the leader in strikeouts (49). Although the season is still very young, the 24-year-old pitcher is to be taken very seriously in the race for the Cy Young trophy.
Hopes are high when looking at the Braves’ roster this season. A rotation made up of Strider, Fried, Morton, not to mention the leader in terms of victories in MLB last year: Kyle Wright. In addition, Canadian Michael Soroka could make a return in the coming weeks. He is currently in rehabilitation in the AAA.
Their batting lineup is just as scary. With Ronald Acuña Jr., Matt Olson, Michael Harris II, Austin Riley, to name a few, the Atlanta Braves can, once again this year, win top honors.
