Charles Leblanc has been designated for assignment by the Marlins

The Miami Marlins have just signed Jean Segura, who will play third base for the club. By force of circumstances, we had to make room on the roster of 40 players.

And to do this, the Marlins made the decision to designate Charles Leblanc for assignment.

What does that mean? This means that at the moment, he is not eligible to be on the Majors roster since to be on the 26-man roster, you have to be on the 40-man roster.

But what does it mean to be DFA? It means that the player is out of the 40 man roster and that the club has one week to bring him back, place him on waivers, trade him, release him or send him to the minors.

I guess the infield depth worked against him, but he did well in his Major League debut last year with the Marlins.

He was in his first year in the organization having worked his way up through the system at Rangers, the club that drafted him.

It’s too early to know what that means, but people who follow the Marlins’ activities seem surprised by the decision. And me too, by the way.

Whether in Miami or elsewhere, he will have to prove himself again in training camp 2023. We wish him the best of luck.
