Center field: Kevin Kiermaier was told that it was his position to lose

Kevin Kiermaier is happy to play in Toronto. Why?

Because the guy will be able to stay in Tampa Bay in the winter. Because he plays for a good club. Because the Blue Jays wanted him, which made him feel wanted.

But above all, because he was told that he had a chance to play every day.

In light of his discussions with the Jays, he understood that the center fielder position was his to lose in view of the next season.

There will be no platoon: if all goes well, the left-handed batter will not only hit against right-handers and he will play in the center every day.

And that’s exactly what I didn’t want.

I’m happy to see him in Toronto, but I don’t think he’s the solution for the Jays on a day-to-day basis. He looks like he has a good personality, but can he replace Teoscar offensively? To ask the question, is to answer it.

Can he stay healthy, too? He is coming back from hip surgery.

That’s a risk considering George Springer is injury-prone. It’s going to take a little more certainty than that in Toronto.

To be continued, but the Jays could still add an outfielder by the start of camp. And ideally, he would be a good left-handed hitter.

  • Adam Frazier in Baltimore.
  • What kind of contract will Michael Conforto sign?
  • Zack Britton at the Mets?
