For a few days, Carlos Rodon seems to be getting closer to the Yankees. The Giants pulled themselves out of the running by getting Carlos Correa, and aside from a few teams whose interest seemed thinner, it only seemed like a matter of time before the Yankees signed him.
And tonight, it finally happened: Rodon signed a six-year contract to join the Bronx.
The gunner will receive the tidy sum of $162 million over the next six years, which corresponds to an annual salary of $27 million. This is a large amount, but it is far from the $35 million that has been circulating in recent weeks.
Rodon had said in the past that pitching for the Yankees was something he was interested in, and now he’s joining one of the best rotations in the sport. Barring a surprise, he will be a luxury #2 behind Gerrit Cole and the two will be joined by Luis Severino, Nestor Cortes Jr. and Frankie Montas.
It’s very heavy.
