Cancer: Liam Hendriks not placed on 60-day injured list

Over the past few months, we have learned that Liam Hendriks, the closer of the Chicago White Sox, was going to have to go away for a while to deal with cancer.

This had created, as you can guess, a wave of solidarity in Major League Baseball. He had received massive support.

Lo and behold, nearly three months after the news broke, the Chicago White Sox had some good news to report: Hendriks is fine.

In fact, he is progressing at breakneck speed and the White Sox are hoping he will be back before the start of June.

That’s what Sox GM Rick Hann said.

This is the reason why he was not placed on the 60-day injured list, considering that he could return before that.

Warning: it is possible that this will change along the way and if his treatments do not ultimately go as planned, he could be placed on the 60-day injured list.

But the fact that it is not yet is positive.

Note that a player who is on the regular injured list is still on a club’s 40-player roster. Being on the 60-day disabled list opens up a spot on the 40-man roster until the return of the player in question.

We wish Hendriks not to have to come back after June. That would mean his health is fine.

  • At the White Sox, the fun will be there.
  • The club has things to prove, despite everything.
