Brewers: Josh Donaldson signs minor contract and goes to AAA

This noon, rumors regarding Josh Donaldson began to emanate from Milwaukee. Ken Rosenthal reported that the Brewers were considering signing the third baseman.

And that’s it. Josh Donaldson has signed a minor contract and will report to the Nashville school club, in the AAA.

Note that Donaldson does not need to be in the Majors right now to be (potentially) eligible for the playoffs. For what?

Because as long as he’s a member of the 40-man roster on September 1, that’s fine. That’s why New York released him in August.

I guess the plan is to give him a chance to recover game shape before thinking about returning to the Majors. After all, he hasn’t played for a month and a half.

If it goes well, I’m sure he’ll get his chance.

Right now, the Brewers lead their division with a three-game lead over the Cubs and six games over the Reds. Signing Donaldson is a bet that brings depth to keep ahead.

Will this work?

Note that this pushes Abraham Toro back in the hierarchy. After all, he’s spent a lot of time in Nashville this year and adding a veteran doesn’t help his cause.

We’ll see what happens, then.

  • The Marlins wanted every pitcher the Guardians selected.
  • Brett Baty is back.
  • 14 hitting coaches in 12 years?
