Los Angeles Dodgers rookie pitcher Bobby Miller is attracting attention for one very simple reason: he’s remarkably efficient.
Yesterday, against the Phillies in Philadelphia, Miller pitched six innings giving up just three hits to hometown hitters while striking out seven of those on strike, lowering his ERA to 0.78 in four starts so far. this season.
Considered the best pitcher in the Dodgers branch network at the start of the season, Miller does not disappoint.
By shutting out the Phillies in a 9-0 victory for his team, Miller earned a third win in four outings this season.
A University of Louisville product, the big right-hander is rewriting history in his own way, as yesterday he became the fourth Major League pitcher to pitch at least five innings while allowing one run or less in his first four career starts. Others to have accomplished this feat include Kenta Maeda in 2016 (also with the Dodgers), while Cody Anderson did it in 2015 with Cleveland. It’s the same for Cliff Markle for the Yankees in 1915-1916.
Playing in a big market like Los Angeles doesn’t seem to intimidate Miller too much, as he’s been dominant since the start of the 2023 campaign.
Fortunately for the management of the Dodgers and their supporters, the performances of Miller compensate for those less glorious of Noah Syndergaard who, let’s face it, does not break anything in 2023.
In a race to finish with the Arizona Diamondbacks, they hold a two-and-a-half-game lead in the National Division West. The Dodgers will need support from all roster members, especially starting pitchers.
