Bo Bichette knows the importance of helping the less fortunate

We are six days away from the start of MLB training camp. The smell of freshly cut grass, the hot Florida and Arizona sun, the sound of the ball landing heavily in the catcher’s glove or the sound of the bat propelling the catcher 400 feet from home plate, all of this is on our doorstep!

But there’s more to it than just a baseball diamond. And Bo Bichette understood it.

Indeed, the Toronto Blue Jays infielder is well aware of the privileged life he led, growing up as the son of an MLB player and entering the fifth season of his career himself. Major League Baseball career.

This is one of the reasons why he wants to help those who do not have the opportunities he had. Moreover, Bichette will sponsor the baseball program of the Police Athletic League at the Jackson Recreation Center in Saint-Petersburg, Florida.

And his desire to give back to the community is not new.

Ever since I was in high school, it’s something I’ve always wanted to do. So having this opportunity to let kids play baseball for free is something that was on my mind.

His contribution, the amount of which is not disclosed, will provide uniforms, equipment for approximately 100 boys and girls aged 5 to 14, as well as payment of registration fees, allowances for coaches and other costs, split between four baseball teams and four T-ball teams.

The 24-year-old is certainly not the only one to go for this kind of initiative across MLB, but the more there are, the healthier baseball will be.
