Blue Jays: Is there enough depth in the outfield?

A few days ago, I noted that at the next Blue Jays camp, unless there is an injury or a movement of personnel, there will only be one place in play.

We hope that Otto Lopez can fight for his place in the sun.

In the outfield, the Blue Jays are known to be driving defensively. With Daulton Varsho, Kevin Kiermaier and George Springer to cover the turf, pitchers are confident.

Many have said so, including Jordan Romano and Alek Manoah.

But is it enough? After all, all the other guys on the roster are not natural flyers and the depth is thin.

We also know that Kiermaier is not a big hitter and that he will not necessarily be healthy, he who has had health problems in recent years.

We also know that Daulton Varsho is the team’s third receiver. If Danny Jansen or Alejandro Kirk were to get injured, will he be a more regular option?

And finally, we also know that George Springer will not play 162 games. Even if he will save himself in the right instead of the center, he will get injured in 2023. Also, to protect him, he will be the hitter of choice once in a while. #Prevention

Right now, Whit Merrifield and Cavan Biggio are depth in the field. Worst case scenario, Brandon Belt (who hasn’t played there in years) can go.

I’m sure that if necessary, Santiago Espinal can also help out.

We must therefore ask ourselves, in the circumstances, whether this is sufficient. I don’t have the answer and maybe the club is comfortable with the current depth.

But let’s not forget one thing: if the club is badly taken along the way, getting guys is going to cost more than it does right now. Is the club thinking about it? Surely.

  • The Astros, the club to dethrone.
  • Shohei Ohtani prepares.
  • Speaking of the Blue Jays.
