When it came time for designer Justin Turner, the Boston Red Sox weren’t fooling around with the puck-level effort, if you’ll pardon the expression.
They should have done this for Xander Bogaerts, but hey.
Short. All that to say that at the base, Turner really had the feeling that it was towards Los Angeles that he would turn once again. That said, life sometimes changes our plans.
And in Turner’s case, he saw the Sox, a club he always admired from afar, use heavy artillery to convince him to sign in town.
First, Alex Cora and Kiké Hernandez, two former teammates of Turner, talked a lot to the main interested party to convince him to sign.
But there’s also Bill Belichick, who texted the third baseman to convince him to sign with the Red Sox. wow.
I actually say “third baseman” when referring to Turner, but that’s no longer true. In fact, Turner is now more of a hitter of choice who will also play first base … and who will help out, if necessary, at third base.
After all, he is not fooled: he knows that Rafael Devers is there.
In the press conference to introduce him to the Boston media, Turner claimed to know the third base belongs to Devers, who is in Boston to stay there.
The American therefore wants to see the young star play every day, which will push the veteran to play elsewhere on the field.
Turner is obviously grieving leaving the Dodgers, but he’s happy to join the Red Sox. He will be a good mentor for the guys there, including Devers.
Losing JD Martinez was a blow to Boston, but replacing him with Turner is a great consolation prize for the Sox.
