After all the excitement generated by Anthony Volpe’s arrival with the big club, expectations were enormously high for Yankees fans. Without necessarily looking bad, it hasn’t lived up to those so far.
Last night, in their 4-1 win over the Orioles, Volpe hit his first career triple. Subsequently, he was pushed to the plate by the double of DJ LeMahieu. Thus, the Yankees took the lead that would lead them to victory.
When he returned to the locker room after the game, the young rookie found a nice surprise in his locker. His teammates had awarded him the player of the match belt. An honor that made him very happy.
Being part of this team and being welcomed by these guys made it ten times better than I could have imagined. They recognized what I was going through, that I was struggling, and they were there for me every step of the way.
– Anthony Volpe
Like every rookie player, Volpe needs to be confident in order to be successful. What better than to receive the respect of his teammates to make it happen?
This belt could have gone to two or three other players yesterday, and basically it’s not that important. But for Volpe, it could be a boost confidence that will unlock his talent.
