Anthony Rendon expected Shohei Ohtani to leave Anaheim

In 2019, after winning the World Series, Anthony Rendon signed a big contract ($245 million over seven years) with the Anaheim Angels.

The Angels missed out on Gerrit Cole and instead did what they always do: neglect the mound and sign an offensive star.

Even if the Angels don't have a great batting average with their impact signings (like the guys in question, sometimes…), we agree that Rendon is one of their worst signings.

Always injured, he has been unable to play more than one match in three for three years. And when he plays, he's just useless.

Not to mention the fact that he is publicly loathsome with the media. I wonder how he is with the boys in the locker room, me…

The good news for him is that without Shohei Ohtani, that opens up the DH job for him more often. This could help him stay healthy – just like Mike Trout, in fact.

Losing Ohtani won't help the club win, but at least Rendon will be happy if he can play more as a DH. As if it were important, that…

But OK. All this to say that Rendon, who will benefit from Ohtani's departure from an individual point of view, expected to see the pitcher/DH leave.

That's what Bob Nightengale reportshe who quotes an appearance by Rendon on the Jack Vita podcast a few days ago.

Note that Shohei Ohtani chose the opposite path from Rendon. He went and won and he left money on the table to do so.

Rendon bled the Angels, who fell for it, after winning in 2019.

Note that the Angels do not want to sign a guy who could only be a DH in 2024 to leave the door open for Rendon and Trout.

For Trout, this is understandable. But for Rendon? It's going to be time for this guy to make a man of himself and give the Angels a run for their money.

Because there, it is simply useless.
