Andrew McCutchen could play first base in 2024

Pittsburgh Pirates veteran Andrew McCutchen could well find himself on first cushion next season.

At least that’s the idea put forward by journalist Jason Mackey of Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

According to him, both the Pirates and McCutchen need a “radical change” for the next season, for the next few years.

As McCutchen has less time left in major league baseball at age 36, Mackey offers to send him to first cushion, a bit like a certain Willie Stargell did in the 70s for these same Pirates.

According to the journalist, the Pirates must not lose sight of the fact that they have a good pipeline, but also needs to be filled now.

The situation is not ideal, but it could do with an addition to the outfield. As much defensive as offensive.

One thing is certain, Andrew McCutchen brings presence and balance within the locker room, but also among the fans.

It would be wise for senior management to make the right decision to keep fans coming through the turnstiles at PNC Park.

Remember that McCutchen will not play until the end of the season due to a partial fracture of the tibia. However, he wants to continue playing in 2024 and we imagine that it will be for the Pirates.

The one who will be a free agent currently has 299 career home runs.

  • Adolis Garcia is injured. That opens the door for Evan Carter.
  • A name to watch this winter.
