Although Rob Manfred says he’s “sorry to the fans of Oakland,” the process of moving the A’s to Las Vegas is closer to the finish line than ever.
Yesterday, the Governor of the State of Nevada officially accepted the law to give $380 million to the club to build a stadium in Las Vegas.
It was one of the final steps to formalize MLB’s first move since the Expos left Montreal for Washington.
The last step? In the coming weeks, MLB owners will vote on the move, but it should pass unanimously.
This means that it is almost official: the A’s are going to move.
The reverse boycott, which Rob Manfred commented on saying it was good to see the A’s near average attendance for once, didn’t work.
Remember that the A’s have a valid lease for one more season at the Oakland Coliseum. Their stadium in Vegas will not be ready in 2025, which will open the door to a temporary move.
Could the club play at their AAA club stadium in Vegas in 2025 and 2026? I have a feeling yes.
