The Toronto Blue Jays will definitely want to add depth to the outfield before spring camp begins, especially considering the injury history of their outfielders.
But that shouldn’t stop them from continuing to address one of their shortcomings last year, the bullpen.
And to get there, the Canadian team could offer a minor league contract to the former St. Louis Cardinals, Alex Reyes.
The latter posted an ERA of 3.24 in 72 innings and a third of work last season.
The 28-year-old was a very promising prospect in the Missouri organization, but like many, the promises gave way to disappointment, in part due to his five stints on the injured list since 2016, including an operation Tommy John type.
The potential is still there, however, as the gunner continues to throw his fastball at 97 mph and gets his fair share of strikeouts. If he manages to improve his control, he who has a very high rate of goals on the ball, he could fulfill the expectations that we had at his young age.
Without necessarily expecting big things, it could be a nice risk for the Jays, and this, at a very reasonable price, less than 3 million dollars.
As eighth reliever, the game is worth the candle.
