Adding a president: Buck Showalter refuses to think about his future

The New York Mets are having one of the worst seasons in MLB history. We’re not saying that because their record is 66-78 since we’ve already seen worse…

But we say that because of the expectations of the club, which had signed many stars in recent years.

The failure is great.

Steve Cohen, to stir the soup, chose to add a quality baseball president in David Stearns. He will join the club in a few weeks over GM Billy Eppler.

This means that even if there is a change in management, the CEO is not going to pay for the bad season. Will there be a change elsewhere, particularly at the manager level?

At this time, Buck Showalter did not want to comment on the whole thing. He will see after the season what his new boss thinks.

For now, he’s just focused on finishing the season strong. In any case, Stearns is not yet stationed in New York: he is still an advisor for the Brewers.

I don’t know if the Mets will want to make a change. After all, Cohen likes Showalter and so does Eppler. He was MLB Manager of the Year in 2022.

But I have a feeling if Stearns wants to bring his man, he’s going to make a change.

Could Craig Counsell be a candidate? If he doesn’t come back to the Brewers, maybe his old boss will call him… but I think if he doesn’t come back, it’s to take a break.

We’ll see.

Note that Showalter was hired to win the World Series. Knowing that the club wants to rebuild in 2024, will he want to stay? That’s also a question.
