Last year, veteran pitcher Adam Wainwright was thought to be retiring along with Yadier Molina and Albert Pujols to St. Louis. He ultimately didn’t do it.
He returned in 2023 and despite his team’s difficult season, he still managed to get his hands on his 200th victory as a pitcher.
And what’s interesting is we knew he had personality, but this season he showed us just how much.
It started in March when he sang his team’s national anthem during the opening game, but it didn’t stop there.
We especially saw, in the last days, to what extent he had to fun. He was hit because he wanted to. He saw the Cards give his family a dog to mark his retirement.
He sang again.
Obviously, there’s nothing he can’t do. I think his next challenge will be to be the chef of his family. #PredictionDuChampGauche
But in fact, his next challenge has already been announced: he will be a member of the Fox Sports broadcast team on the sidelines of the Astros division series.
This is what he said to Foul Territory.
He will be an analyst alongside his former teammate AJ Pierzynski as was the case in 2020, but also in 2021.
Remember that the Astros will face the winner of the series between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Minnesota Twins.
Here is the series table, for those who want to see it again.
I wonder if this is the only time (since his official retirement) we’ll see Waino or if he’ll make a habit of it.
After all, it’s his style to be on the air – and I’m sure he’ll be very good.
I can’t wait to see the result… even if, in fact, I think I’ll listen to RDS and TVA Sports more than anything else in view of the series.
Finally, note that Wainwright said he pitched with an injury (partial tear in the corner of his femur) for the majority of the season.
- Blue Jays roster.
- Jay Jackson has a locker in the locker room – just in case.
- Everyone must contribute.
- Terry Francona still works for the Guardians, but not as manager.
